Many people may have visitedDadieshui, but not
many know its origin. There is a beautiful legend for
this beautiful place.
Long ago, there was a mountain village
with beautiful scenery and wild flowers. People here were very hardworking and
lived a life with ample food and clothing.
There was a beautiful and ingenious girl who was
very good at weaving in the village. It was a pity that she was an orphan and
made a living by weaving. The girl's cloth had so good quality that it would be
quickly sold out. And because of this, she could almost support herself.
Sometimes, when she made more money, she took out some to support poor people
in the village. She would do her best to help those in need as long as she
could. Therefore, the folks liked her very much and always praise her for her
kindness.
In this village, there was also an ugly, cruel, and
idle moneybag. He had plenty of treasures but never did farm work. Seeing a
beautiful girl that could weave so well in the village, he had a wicked idea:
she could earn a lot of money just by weaving - this would be a cash cow that
could be taken easily. The more he thought about it, the happier he felt. So he
decided to send a few servants to snatch the girl. A maid in this family knew
it and rushed to the girl’s place to tell her. The girl said indignantly, “I’ll
never let that bad guy enter my place.” Saying that, she picked up a stick and
was about to rush out when the maid hurriedly stopped her and advised: “you’re
alone, there's no way you could fight so many people on their side. In my
opinion, you’d better hide elsewhere and come back when he no longer thinks
about this.” At this time, folks who heard the news also came to persuade her
to go hiding for a while. The girl found it reasonable and agreed. She packed
all the cloth she had woven without leaving a tiny piece. She said goodbye to
the folks and ran out of the village.
The old moneybag's servants went to the girl's home
and couldn’t see her, so they guessed she had escaped and desperately ran after
her. The girl saw chasers and ran faster. In panic, a side of the cloth in her
hand fell on the ground, rolling. She had no time to take care of it and could
only let it drag on the ground. Chasers became nearer, and the dragging cloth
became longer like a stream. Suddenly, there was a dead end - a steep cliff in
front of her. Standing on the edge of the cliff, the girl looked back at the
gasping servants, who were very happy to see that she had no way to escape.
They were about to catch her when she pulled her cloth hard and jumped off the
big cliff. Servants stood there stunned. At the moment when the girl jumped,
there was a loud bang and a waterfall appeared on the cliff. It turned out that
the cloth that was dragged on the ground turned into a clear stream, which fell
from the big mountain cliff where the girl jumped. The servants didn't figure
out what happened when they were flushed down the abyss by the stream. After
jumping off the cliff, the girl became a fairy pigeon. And the sound of the waterfall
was her voice.
