Spring Festival is commonly known as the Lunar New Year. According to the ancient records in Yi language, Yi ethnic group used the solar calendar to divide a year into 10 months with 36 days in each. Every month starts with mouse day and circulates the twelve genera three times to end with pig day. A year included 360 days, and the remaining 5 to 6 days were the New Year's Day, not included in the 10 months. The Spring Festival period is divided into New Year and Little New Year, the former is at the summer solstice at the end of October and the latter is at the winter solstice. However, the present Yuanyang Yi people have gradually become hanized and spend Spring Festival together with Han people.
