Sani clothing
is vivid and exquisite. A piece of clothing is a
beautiful piece of art.
Young men wear long-sleeved coat, short hemp vest, loose trousers, and blue
or red cloth belt.
Women’s headwear is semicircle like a
rainbow in the sky. It is made of silk of seven colors including red, green,
indigo, purple, yellow, blue, and white, and has the outer edge set with silver
bubbles (called "Kashima" in Sani language). Long tail is wrapped inside.
Unmarried girls put two butterfly blocks on the left and right sides of this
kerchief. Married women take these off, keep one for collection and put the
other on top of head; and they no longer wear the silver bubbles and beads on
the kerchief.
Sani children wear a velvet
tiger-shaped cap which has a row of tiger-shaped or lion-shaped silver bubbles
on the front, two series of small silver bells on the ears; a silver ring on the neck; and a silver lock and
silver floccule on the chest.
When Sani people go to a fair or visit
friends, they take along their hand-made linen bags. Women's bag is decorated
with wool fringe and silver
bells on both sides. When walking, silver bells and fringe move and jingle.
